Most companies opt for health benefits that begin January 1, so if you get your dental benefits through your employer, odds are your benefits will expire at the end of the year.

Remember, if you don’t use them, you lose them – so use your benefits before it’s too late!

  • Know your plan details. Get up to speed on your plan’s deductible and annual maximum, and what you have used so far this year. Your deductible is the amount you must pay before expenses are covered by your dental benefits plan, up to your plan’s annual maximum. Figure out the details, and then get moving.
  • Schedule exams now. Is there a dentist that can still fit you in before the end of the year? How about any dependents on your plan? The key to successfully using your dental benefits is to take advantage of what’s covered. Preventive care, like checkups and cleanings, is usually covered by your plan and typically isn’t applied to your plan’s deductible.
