Pumpkin spice lattes are just around the corner – and, for many of us, that means open enrollment season isn’t far behind.

Picking your benefits can be complicated. In fact, statistics show that most people tend to just re-enroll in the benefit options that they have chosen previously. But benefit packages often change, and you may want to change your selections with them.

With these six easy questions to ask your HR department, you can get a handle on your benefits this open enrollment season:

What perks should I know about?

Often, dental benefits also come with built-in or voluntary perks – such as travel insurance, vision benefits, and more. Check with your HR team to be sure you’re not missing out on anything.

Should I revisit my benefits now that I’ve had a major life change?

What are the total costs?

Be sure to check with your HR department on the total costs of your insurance – including deductibles, costs after the deductibles are met, and out-of-pocket maximums. Understanding your potential costs will help you choose a plan – and help you plan your finances!

Does this plan cover orthodontics, or other specialties I may need?

Insurance plans are usually not one-size-fits-all – be sure to check which plans cover what you need at a cost you are comfortable with.

Is there a rate change? If so, when will I see it in my paycheck?

Finally, be sure to ask what your rate change is – if anything – and when you can expect to see that change take place.
