Dental hygienists see it every day, especially in the winter – a patient with a sinus infection, convinced that they have a cavity.
If you have a bad cold and also a tooth ache, there is likely a non-cavity-related reason for that. Your sinuses are very near your jawbone, so when the sinus cavities get blocked, it can cause discomfort or pain that seems to be in your teeth.
Lucky for you, we have some tips to help:
- Consider using a neti pot to clear your sinuses
- Use heating and cooling pads (alternately) to help relieve irritation
- Use saltwater mouth rinse
Sinus infections can be serious, and usually require a visit to your doctor to treat. If your sinus infection is gone but your toothache remains, be sure to see your dentist.
