It’s officially the first day of summer, and we at Delta Dental of Minnesota are celebrating with a trip to the farmers market! Did you know farmers markets are packed with delicious – and tooth-friendly – foods?

Healthy teeth require the same nutrients that keep your bones strong – calcium and vitamin D, both of which are commonly found in dairy items. If your local farmers market doesn’t have dairy products, or if you’re dairy-free, these nutrients can also be found in broccoli and leafy green vegetables.

You’ve probably heard fiber is good for your body, but you might not know that fiber is also good for your teeth! Vegetables that are high in fiber are literally made of fibers, meaning they can act as little toothbrushes on your teeth. Vegetables rich in fiber also create saliva production and chewing, both of which help keep your teeth and gums healthy.

While you’re enjoying the sun, fresh flowers and fresh foods at your farmers markets this summer, be sure to keep your teeth in mind!
