For most of Minnesota’s schoolchildren, today means a return to textbooks, pencils and gym class after a sunny – and too short – summer reprieve.

And just like many of these children’s parents, Delta Dental of Minnesota is thrilled to welcome them back to school!

We are proud to announce that, following last year’s successful kickoff, Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation will again provide oral health kits and lesson plans to Minnesota’s first-graders and their teachers.

The Smiles@School program, which last year reached 55,000 Minnesota first-graders, sends backpacks filled with fun oral health items to every single Minnesota first-grade class that requests them. Teachers also receive free oral health lesson plans, downloadable educational videos, and more.

The first-grade program is part of the three-pronged Smiles@School effort, which also provides sealants and fluoride treatment to second-graders at risk for tooth decay. Since 2012, more than 12,000 second-graders have been served as part of the program.
