Greater Minneapolis crisis nursery

Since 2008, Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation has invested more than $100,000 to support the Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery, an organization that shelters more than 2,200 children at risk for abuse and neglect every year.

When it opened in the early 1980s, Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery (GMCN) was the first crisis nursery in Minnesota. Today, it is the only residential crisis nursery in the state – one of 20 in the country.

With a mission to end child abuse and neglect and create strong, healthy families, GMCN offers free, voluntary services to Hennepin County families with young children at risk of abuse and neglect. Its programs include a 24-hour crisis helpline, crisis counseling, overnight residential child care, parent education and parent support group, fourth-day home visiting, and a pediatric assessment and medical management (PAMM) program.

The PAMM program is where Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation has invested the most. The program provides medical care and health assessments (including screening for signs of abuse) to nursery children, many of whom do not receive regular medical attention. Through our foundation’s support, all children served by GMCN now also receive an oral health assessment, and their parents receive hygiene and tooth care education.

We are so grateful for the opportunity to partner with incredible organizations like GMCN, which work tirelessly to support our communities, and are looking forward to the work we can continue to do together. Learn more about Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery at CrisisNursery.org.
