Children dressed up in their halloween costumes

If you’ve seen one vampire or princess costume, you’ve seen ‘em all. This year, help your child (or yourself) stand out from the crowd with a DIY oral health-themed costume.

  • Tooth. Draw two large tooth shapes on poster board or white cardboard, then glue shoulder straps to the tops of each tooth to make a sandwich board-style costume. If you’re a lover of puns, have your child do a little shimmy when they ring the doorbell– that’s a wiggly tooth!
  • Toothpaste. Write the name of your favorite toothpaste vertically across a long white shirt or dress. For the toothpaste lid, make a cap from a lampshade or small plastic trash can (preferably a new one).
  • Floss. This costume can also be easily made at home with a cardboard box and plenty of string. Get creative by inventing a flavor of floss to write on the box.
  • Dentist. A long white button-down shirt or lab coat and a surgical mask is all you need to look the part. Scrubs would be even more comfy! You can accessorize with latex gloves, a toothbrush and floss.
  • The Tooth Fairy. If you have a few Halloweens or dance recitals under your belt, you may already own all of the elements necessary for this costume: A tutu, fairy wings, a wand and a tiara or crown. Draw a tooth shape on a t-shirt and your costume is complete. Bonus points for excessive use of glitter.

Whichever costume you choose is sure to bring plenty of smiles. Happy Halloween!
