If you’ve seen one vampire or princess costume, you’ve seen ‘em all. This year, help your child (or yourself) stand out from the crowd with a DIY oral health-themed costume.
- Tooth. Draw two large tooth shapes on poster board or white cardboard, then glue shoulder straps to the tops of each tooth to make a sandwich board-style costume. If you’re a lover of puns, have your child do a little shimmy when they ring the doorbell– that’s a wiggly tooth!
- Toothpaste. Write the name of your favorite toothpaste vertically across a long white shirt or dress. For the toothpaste lid, make a cap from a lampshade or small plastic trash can (preferably a new one).
- Floss. This costume can also be easily made at home with a cardboard box and plenty of string. Get creative by inventing a flavor of floss to write on the box.
- Dentist. A long white button-down shirt or lab coat and a surgical mask is all you need to look the part. Scrubs would be even more comfy! You can accessorize with latex gloves, a toothbrush and floss.
- The Tooth Fairy. If you have a few Halloweens or dance recitals under your belt, you may already own all of the elements necessary for this costume: A tutu, fairy wings, a wand and a tiara or crown. Draw a tooth shape on a t-shirt and your costume is complete. Bonus points for excessive use of glitter.
Whichever costume you choose is sure to bring plenty of smiles. Happy Halloween!
